Product Description

This is a traditional Japanese craft called a “Temari” ball. Temari are made by winding long threads into a perfect sphere and are considered lucky charms symbolizing the wish “May you live happily and peacefully for a long time.”
The pattern featured here is called the “Asanoha” (hemp leaf) design, named because it resembles hemp leaves. It is also used as a protective motif since it resembles the “Uroko” (scale pattern) found on snakes and fish, believed to ward off misfortune.
The colorful Asanoha pattern varies in color combinations on each facet, making every Temari unique. It is palm-sized and perfect to display as part of your interior decor.

This item is one of a kind.

Materials:
Rice husks and plant-dyed threads
The core is made by wrapping rice husks in tissue paper, then winding thread tightly to form a round shape. The exterior is carefully embroidered stitch by stitch.

Handling Precautions

Display Instructions:
Please avoid placing it in direct sunlight whenever possible. The natural plant-dyed threads will gradually change color over time due to exposure to light and aging. This natural aging process adds to the beauty of the piece, and we hope you enjoy it.

As a handmade item, slight irregularities or distortions may occur compared to factory-made products.
Please handle with care.Since natural plant dyes are used, individual pieces may have slight color variations.

Please understand these points before making your purchase.

Crafted by

“FUKUNOKAMIYA” — Airi Hirasawa
During the COVID-19 lockdown at university, I discovered Temari and began learning to make them on my own. I wanted more people to appreciate their charm, so I sold my creations at university cultural festivals. Since graduating, I have been active as a handmade craft artist.
In 2024, my Temari work was featured in the magazine Hajimete no Hiyoko Club. Additionally, my Temari were used for promotional purposes by the soap company CHANT Tokyo.
