About

‘Millennium Belt’, This is not just a pipe dream.

We were astonished to learn that there is a lacquered belt that has survived through a thousand and several hundred years in time and space and is housed in the Shosoin Repository in Nara. Our company has been involved in making belt buckles for over half a century, and we have put all our efforts into creating the “Millennium Belt,” inspired by the belts in the Shosoin Repository. We applied lacquer to metal, something we have never done before, and for the first time we have used lacquered cowhide for a belt, making it all lacquered.A crystallization of the best aspects of lacquer that combines beauty and antibacterial properties. We will be introducing more products in the future, including those with maki-e painting on lacquer, those with mother-of-pearl inlay, and those that use cordovan for the belt.

The lacquer on this buckle is called “Tomenuri,” and the balance of red and black in this deep crimson color gradually brightens over time due to aging.
