Product Description
This is a handcrafted wooden storage box covered with beautiful vintage silk kimono fabric.
The base material is paulownia bark, traditionally used in Japan for storing precious items like kimonos.
The silk is called “chirimen”, a crepe fabric known for its elegant wrinkled texture. The panel on the lid features a scenic illustration of an old Japanese shipyard. I added a blue acrylic handle to make it both decorative and functional.

WHY PAULOWNIA?
Paulownia wood has unique humidity-control properties. It absorbs moisture in humid conditions and releases it when dry. When it absorbs moisture, the box expands slightly, creating a near-sealed environment — helping prevent mold and repel insects. For centuries, kimono chests in Japan have been made from paulownia for these very reasons.
